Studio Hausen’s Tears Off wallpaper is an award-winning innovation which invites interaction, allowing the user to act as the designer himself. Instead of being printed, a pattern is cut into the wallpaper, only becoming visible when the user tears off its elements along their perforated borders. This opens the door to endless possibilities for cusomization depending on the surrounding space and its decorative scheme. Instead of covering the whole wall, the pattern might be present in some areas while fading out into a calmer monochrome in others. There is also the opportunity to play with revealing whatever surface may lie beneath the wallpaper: An aged brick or concrete wall, a vintage wallpaper, or even peeling paint can be left in tact below the panels of Tears Off, creating lively textural contrasts in an interior. The wallpaper has received numerous honors, including the AIT Trend Scout Award, and is part of the permanent exhibition at the DHUB Design Museum in Barcelona. Tears Off comes with a special wallpaper paste that enbles the panels to remain removable over a long period of time.
